“Banished” Film Screening, Discussion, and Dessert; 7pm

Our recent interim, Pastor Brad is hosting a screening of the documentary “Banished,” an entrant in the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, which tells the story of four U.S. towns that forced African-Americans to flee their hometowns in post-Reconstruction America. The screening will be followed by an opportunity for dialogue about the film and its themes. Dessert will be provided.

From Pastor Brad:

“A hundred years ago, in communities across the U.S., white residents forced thousands of black families to flee their homes. Even a century later, these towns remain almost entirely white. BANISHED tells the story of three of these communities and their black descendants, who return to learn their shocking histories.

One such city is Pierce City, MO, where my grandfather grew up. I visited there in 2007 and had lunch with the Mayor, who is a distant relative. You will meet her in this story.”
