Little Free Pantry

SCC Little Free Pantry

Our Little Free Pantry standing outside our main church doors on N. 185th St. has been meeting a real food need in our community. We appreciate any donations of non-refrigerated food, as well as pet food, water, and small hand sanitizers. You can drop donations in the church foyer (please call ahead to be sure someone will be there to receive them, or contact the church office to make an appointment, as we are often working remotely due to Covid-19!). And if you find yourself in need of supplemental food, please feel welcome to stop by and utilize the pantry!

Ronald Commons

On the 1st Thursday of the month, we join YMCA and other volunteers to prepare and serve a community meal at Ronald United Methodist Church in partnership with Ronald Commons Cafe. Whether you can join in the prep or not, you are always invited to join us for a delicious and hearty meal (free; donations accepted)! Occasional other opportunities to serve with Ronald Commons include the annual summer Ronald Commons block party.

Jacob’s Well/Vision House

SCC women’s “sleep-out” to raise money and awareness for Vision House Shoreline

SCC, along with many other area churches and business, has been a long-time supporter of Vision House Shoreline (also known as Jacob’s Well), which provides housing, childcare, case support, and more for homeless families in Shoreline.

On the 4th Tuesday of the month, we prep dinner for families prior to an evening event. Occasional other opportunities to serve include clean-out/prep of apartment units when a new family is moving in, and the Shoreline Sleepout (SCC women “sleeping out” in our parking lot for a night to raise awareness and funds for Vision House projects). Vision House also maintains an ongoing list of volunteer needs.

Race and Grace

Race and Grace is a forum for SCC members and friends to have an ongoing discussion of race in America, including topics such as racial injustice and reconciliation. Meetings occur every 1-2 months, typically led by a facilitator and focused around a certain topic, film, book, news event, etc. We would gladly welcome anyone interested in learning more about race and having the rich, though often hard, conversations about our call to engage our culture and love our neighbor as followers of Christ. We also maintain informal dialogue and periodic other events with a view toward not being silent around this challenging topic. For more information, contact the SCC office and we can put you in touch with group facilitators.

SCC runners at the SOS 5K

SCC members, as part of the church and/or individually, engage with the Shoreline and the broader Seattle metro communities in numerous other ways. Some examples include: service days at Mary’s Place; collecting hygiene supplies and making quilts for Elizabeth Gregory Home; delivering food from local grocery stores to the Hopelink food bank; participating in local workshops/classes to learn more about racism and racial justice in our community; running in the World Concern SOS 5K to raise funds for fighting human trafficking; serving the King County Jail Ministry; and more. We care deeply about Jesus’s call to love our neighbor, and we would love to have you join us in this work. Please contact the office for more information about any of the above (or to share a new idea)!
